Wedding Cake

When my friend told me she was getting married, I offered to make her wedding cake. After going through some designs, this is her selection. The original cake was round, but she wanted it square. This was a chocolate cake, made from gluten free flour as her husband (then to be), is gluten intolerant.
The cake is iced with royal icing, and the dots in dark and light pink, red and orange are cut out from fondant.

Cupcakes

Cupcakes seem to be the fashion these days and though its cute and easily handled, it often takes time to decorate each cupcake.I found working with butter cream with direct designs onto the cupcake is the fastest...and not to mention the cheapest. Usually prefer plain butter cupcakes, but I did a batch of 100 chocolate cupcakes a few weeks ago.

Chocolate Cakes.

Some of the chocolate cake with various flower designs. Somehow its more fun decorating a cake for a woman/girl as one can just have flowers and the cake would look great.

Making the few Mother's day and birthday chocolate cake helped give me a chance to experiment with the various layouts and designs, not to mention to practise at making this a perfect chocolate moist cake.

Corporate Cake

This was done for Logica's rebranding in Feb'08. First time working with the stenciled wordings was tough. Need to get better stencils.
Anyways everyone loved the butter cake and butter cream icing. This was close to 3kgs and I never knew it would be so heavy. Guess that is how it feels carrying a 3 tier wedding cake.

Fondant Designs

Its not easy working the gumpaste in our warm climate. This was the 3rd batch of bears I made. The first too were too soft and sort of melted and weeped that in the end they were all just lying on the board.

Was so pleased with this batch, after adding enough gum-tex. Perhaps having an air conditioned room to work with fondant and gumpaste would help. I named these Eenie, Meenie, Minee and Mo.

Kids Cakes

Some of the kids cakes I have for friends' kids. Working on Elmo was rather challenging, to ensure the colours did not mix up. I realised that one needs to get the butter icing to set first so that the design transfer is neater and the colours sit well.

The car cakes were much easier though I wish I could make one that looked more like a real car. Maybe will have to try one with fondant.

Dino Thunder, my friends say looked more like 3 eggs. Hahahah..i think it did. Hope the kid liked it though.
